Take a short drive out Perkinsville Road (1 mile past the Fire Station) to see the Gold King Mine. This is not your usual museum. It’s a large and eclectic collection of buildings, vehicles and equipment scattered around the site of the old Haynes Copper Mine. The children will enjoy the numerous chickens, donkeys and rabbits on site while the parents can browse the jumble of old machinery. Open year round, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. $4.00 Admission.

 

Offers opportunities for hiking, picnicking, camping and a number of prehistoric Indian sites. At the lowest elevation, the primary vegetation is of the Sonoran Desert type. As the elevation rises, chaparral becomes common, followed by piñon pine and juniper. Above that, Ponderosa pine dominates the landscape.
